From the results and observing the successful SEO experts, I have come up with this list of things that affect the ranking on a search engine.
- Meta tags for keywords and description
- Optimizing content with targeted keywords
- Using keywords in URL or something related
- Pages formatted correctly (User experience)
- Using internal links in your website

- Giving outbound links to higher domain authorities
So, there you have it guys the steps mentioned above hold a significant place in determining your website rank in a search engine. Now, let’s understand each of them step by step in a way that is easy to understand and get the results we want.
Meta tags for keywords and description:
We all are familiar with this easiest step in SEO. Optimize or add meta tags for two essential elements keywords and descriptions. Although you may see people, include robots, or author, and a few other tags. But according to a survey, if you do not use those extra tags, you would not be penalized for it. Let us see the examples for how to use these meta tags:
<meta name=”description” content=”Free Web tutorials”>
<meta name=”author” content=”John Doe”>
<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex”>
<meta name=”viewport” content=”width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0″>
The above code is a typical example of what a meta tag would look like.
Look at the chart to understand how each category is used.
I hope all your doubts about meta tags are clear now. Working with meta tags should be a relatively easy task for anyone. And if you are using a content management system(CRM), there are inbuild plugins that are available to add or change the meta tags.
Optimizing content with targeted keywords:
“Key”words are the central elements, as you would have heard, whenever you talk about SEO. Because in optimization, keywords are the elements that are the target. Let’s not make this complicated to understand. It would be advisable if you went through proper research before you create your list of keywords. Checking the trends, the traffic a keyword acquires, and its longevity.
There are some free tools for your keywords research:
- google trends
- Moz keyword research
Once you are ready with your power-packed keywords list, let’s talk about how and where you can use them, starting with making sure that all of your page content is keywords rich. You have to use them everywhere, in your text, image name, file name, headings, and all the items that are on a webpage.
You may already know that headings should be arranged in an order starting from h1, h2 up to hn. Use your titles to input your main keywords of the page. This is a ranking factor, according to google. So use titles to your advantage.
Next up, you have content in the form of text, try not to “OVERDO” when it comes to keywords in text content. I would suggest using your keywords about 4-5 times per 300-400 words maximum. This way, you can maintain a format and consistency.
The other element you can use is naming your files and folders, use your naming convention for inputting a keyword. But, make sure you don’t hold a long name, which is tough for a crawler to interpret.
By doing the steps mentioned above, you will be in good shape toward your journey of #1 google rank.
Suggestion: Try to use your keyword in the first 100 words of your page; this will help Google identify your keyword.
Using keywords in URL or something related:
Url structures can be a significant aspect of SEO. This concept is relatively easy to understand and perform. Let me show you exactly how to do this. Let’s suppose your target keywords are related to green tea, try to name your URL is this format:
By using this format, as mentioned above, will provide search engines a reference about your page content. No one emphasizes this point, but trust me on this one, it does affect.
Pages formatted correctly (User experience):
Users are your customers or sometimes future customers in most of the cases. So you have a chance to impress them by an appealing presentation of your page. You may think that this is not something that is going to affect your rankings. But I bet you, it does. Google notes the time a visitor spends on a particular page, and if your visitors are leaving your page within the first 30-40 seconds after coming to your page, you are in trouble. A high bounce rate is an indication that either the page content was not relevant, or the page was too awful to visit.
There are many types of research conducted to prove this, and researchers came up with one conclusion. They observed that the site with less valuable content ranked higher than the site with more important content, just because of user experience.
Using internal links in your website:
As we all know, link building can help your site grow faster. But let me tell you something interesting; just building an external link is not essential. You can leverage your primary pages by providing an internal link for this page from other pages of your website. Doing this internal link building can be an easy task. Think of it as a funnel. You can subdivide the main page content into different branches, and all these branches have a way to get to the primary page(the foundation).
Another advantage of branching your content is you can have multiple pages, which means various pieces of content, and this will help you make your site comprehensive. Leverage all your pages to market and show your expertise in that field. And not many of your competitors would be using these techniques, so get an advantage over them.
Validating pages for speed and errors:
I don’t think the big names or big companies care much about this factor. Well, let’s take advantage of that and get an edge over them. You must validate all your pages and content to see if there are any errors on the page and if there are any find and fix it ASAP. Mistakes can cause an increase in your page load speed. You better be on point rather than regret later on for not checking and fixing your errors. Finding them all and fixing them would hardly take you about an hour or maybe a little less than that. But this hour that you invested can be priceless when it brings you more visitors.
There are various free tools available for checking errors on your page. I recommend a W3C validator.
Now here is the advantage of using google page speed checker. It will show you all the errors along with your page speed. So you can do both speed check and error solving on one platform. But, I will recommend testing your page or site on different platforms. Google page speed checker does not show accurate results for speed tests.
Test your results. Now, I would give you a legitimate proof of why you should consider reducing your page load speed. We all know Walmart, do you know that Walmart increases their conversion rate by 2% for every second they cut their load time. This proves that load time does affect your site, and you should consider optimization for faster page load time. Also, if your page loads faster, you have a higher chance that your visitor is likely going to spend a higher time on your website and convert into customers.
Creating content-based on your user’s demand:
Once you pick a trend in your niche, you have to come up with your content that is:
• Well build in terms of valuable content
• Better than your competitors
• Should be minimum of 1890 words
• Should have better backlinks
• Use pictures and infographics to make it look attractive
The points mentioned above are a common checkmark to rank #1 on google for your content. You might be wondering about the number 1890, well that is a number which has come up after conducting lots of research. When a blog post or a content page is more than 1890 words, they have a higher tendency to rank on Google 1st page.
You have done all the hard work now, and it is time to enjoy the rewards. Once your content is ready, start sharing it on social media, your email list, and everywhere you can. See your competitors and check out on their backlinks. Try and contact every one and tell them that you have a better article which can be beneficial to their visitors and they will be happy to give you a backlink. This is one of the most effective ways to deliver content based on your customer’s needs and leverage that content to achieve #1 google ranking.
I think many beginners face issues when they come to building backlinks. Let me help you today and give you a few tips so that you will never be stuck on this step again. And these tips will provide you with high-quality whitehat backlinks.
Let’s start with the easiest and my most favorite way to get started, especially if you are a beginner.
1. Go to all the online directories in your region and register your website. Sometimes this may be time-consuming as they take a few days for the approval, but if you get a backlink in return, trust me, it’s not at all a bad deal.
2. Go to some blog posts which you like and are related to your topic. Read the blog posts and then leave some comments in the comments section with your website address.
Note: don’t be a spamming machine, this can lead to a wrong impression and even something the author or the site owner can report your domain name. This may lead to suspension of your domain.
3. Go to free sites that offer Q&A. You may consider going to places like Quora or Reddit and then try to answer questions that are related to your topic. You can also leave a link to your page there as a referral or for more educative purpose. This can be one of the most efficient ways to build quality links from such high-quality websites.
4. Check on your competitors, and this is a bit of fun when it comes to link building. Go to tools like ubersuggest or SEMrush and then check the backlinks your competitors are getting. Now note down all the addresses and then contact each of them personally with an appropriate email. You can tell them how your content is much better in all the aspects and offer its link for increasing the value that the website provides to its customers.
5. Check for broken links on the sites that you want to rank. And try to find broken links on the page by using google check my links extension. Once you figure out the broken links, offer them a replacement link in the form of your content. They would happily do it for you.
6. Try to add links in the Wikipedia. I am not sure if many people know this, but you can edit any page on Wikipedia. Yes, that’s right, any page. So use this opportunity to your advantage without being a fool or a spammer. Find a topic or a page related to your content and find a broken link or add external links at the bottom of the page. Also, you can find a link that says citation needed in the Wikipedia, and this will allow you to add your link to a keyword on Wikipedia content.
Note: Wikipedia is the 10th most visited site in the world, so do not be a “silly spammer.” you can use this opportunity to have a very high-quality backlink.
Make your website mobile-friendly:
According to a survey, more than 50% of the users who visit your website use a mobile or a tablet. Imagine if your site or your page does not work on those devices, how much audience you will lose. And also, google will penalize you for not making a responsive site. Responsive means a website which can work on all the device, and it fits according to the screen size, with increasing technology, all the websites are now mobile-friendly. Even if you get a ready-made bootstrap or a WordPress theme, they are optimized to be responsive.
Using free social media platforms for distributions :
Yes, you have made it down here, and there is not much left to do. This step is relatively easy. We all know the power of social media and how fast it can distribute content. So why not use it? Start spreading your content on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and every platform that is available out there. Just imaging how much money it can cost you to do advertisements traditionally.
Social media is not a platform for just sharing your selfies, cool places you visit, or the food you eat. Do not underestimate the power of social platforms. There are two main advantage of doing this step:
- Your links, which are on social media, would be considered as backlinks to your site. This will give you more backlinks.
- Your content can go viral within a few hours if it is precious. Use hashtags and some catchy words to attract more viewers.
Trust me; if you have a valuable piece of content, social media can be highly rewarding. So don’t wait, start sharing and tell your friends and family members to share them so you can go viral quicker.
Giving outbound links to higher domain authorities:
The last and the final step is here; you may be surprised to hear this. But yes, you can get some benefits by giving outbound links to higher domain authority. Google watches your activities, and if you are generous enough about providing links to strong domains, you are going to get a bump in the ranking. There is not much rocket science in this step; it is as simple as it sounds. So make sure whenever you are creating content, you give outbound links.
Congratulations to you, you made it all the way. Now, you should be in the driver’s seat because you know the tricks better than your competitors. These tips and tricks will give you a Fastrack to #1 rank on Google and other search engines. I hope you found this information valuable.
