Keyword Research For Best SEO Results

Let me tell you one common mistake I see most of the time that is not giving equal importance to all the steps involved in doing SEO. You might think that some of the steps are going to provide you with a higher ranking than the other, well it’s true somewhat. And today we are going to talk about one of that step, and that is Keywords.

Keywords can seem like an easy task, but trust me, it is not. Your whole process can go wrong if your selection of keywords isn’t correct. So let me help you out in this crucial step and explain to you in-depth about keywords and how to choose them wisely. So without wasting time, let’s start with the definition of keywords. I am just kidding guys; there is nothing like a definition of keywords; it is as simple as it sounds. The critical or necessary or essential word is a keyword. You can also think of keyword as the term which the audience uses to search something on google. There are seven main categories of keywords:

1. Short-tail keyword

2. Long-tail keyword

3. Short-term fresh keyword(Recent hype)

4. Long-term evergreen keyword

5. Product defining keyword

6. Customer defining keyword

7. Geo-targeting keyword

Short tail keyword means the most concise form of keyword which lies between one, two, or three words but not more than that. All users use this kind of keywords. They are the keywords that generate the highest amount of traffic. The simple example of these keywords would be On-page SEO, SEO in (any country name), Off-page SEO, etc. Short keywords can be very tough to rank. They also have a very low CTR(click-through rate) as the relevancy of the topic that anyone is searching for can be deviated easily. Let take an example to understand this, if you are selling running shoes and you decide to take cool shoes as your keyword. Your page will be triggered even if someone is trying to search for work shoes or a cool party shoe. So my suggestion would be to try and go for option two, and that is a long-tail keyword.

long-tail keyword is a keyword that consists of words between 4-7. The most preferred option is a long-tail keyword. Keywords like these may generate less traffic, but I guarantee you that they can give you valuable leads. Long-tail keywords are more specific to there subject and what the searcher is looking for. Let’s understand these with an example. If you are buying a tv, and you are a sony fan, your search would specifically target sony, and it will look something like Best Sony LED TV or Cheap Sony TV models or Latest Sony TV in the market. And you know what is more interesting about long-tail keywords, you have a higher chance of conversion as your customer knows what he or she requires. So try to use as many long-tail keywords as you can to get more quality traffic.

short-term fresh keyword can be a lottery if you get one correct. By fresh, I mean, trending. Imagine a scenario where there is a new film or a product or a service that is getting viral. For example, fast and furious-5, and you have a blog post or a review article that is related to the same topic. Your organic growth graph is going to skyrocket for a while and drop down again after some time. These types of words, which become a trend for a short period, are named as short-term keywords. If you are a long term player and want to remain in the position for a longer duration, this is not your goto option.

Long-term evergreen keyword, yes, you guessed it right, the words which never go out of fashion are called long term keywords. And to explain this, I have a straightforward example like “how to lose belly fat.” You can be an expert in any such topic, and you want to leverage your knowledge, this evergreen keyword is your best option. They may drop down a little, but mind you, this is not a significant drop, maybe 10-20% maximum. And the fascinating part about using long term evergreen keywords is, when you are getting constant visitors on your page by search result words directly, it will increase your domain authority. And once you have acquired a high domain authority, you will remain #1 for a long time.

Product defining keyword are those keywords which are specific to a particular product. Let’s say if you are finding a tracking bag, your search will be specific to towards word “tracking.” When there is a search made for product defining keywords, you have a high chance of having a sale as the searcher is interested in getting knowledge of the product and then on buy it. Such keywords can be used effectively of your online store in the title of the product and description. The more optimized your page is with keywords, you have a higher chance of displaying the product page in the search result. And the main advantage of using these keywords is you have low competition.

The customer-defining keyword is the simplest of all the keywords types to list out. You may be thinking how? Let me help you. Think of a keyword for your product or service; for example, you are running Zumba classes. How can you take your primary service(Zumba) and make customer-defining keywords? Just add characteristics of your target audience, like age, gender, occupation, living style, etc. (Ex: Zumba classes for teenagers, Special Zumba classes for females and likewise). This type of keyword is beneficial and can provide high ROI in targeting an audience that is around your service location.

The geo-targeting keyword is the type of keywords in which you include your target audience location. Such keywords are more natural keywords to get. You just have to add a city, neighborhood, town, or a country in which your target audience resides. Geo-targeting becomes more comfortable as you already have mentioned your location on your webpage. Then you just specify the area somewhere in the content of your page using keywords. You can target your audience and have a high chance of conversion as they are more likely to find the service or product in the area they want.

So there you go, guys, these are the main seven categories in which you can divide your keywords. Which the proper combination of these keywords, you can come up with a bunch of effective keywords that can make your competition low, and your chance of ranking high. You may start brainstorming your ideas and note down all the keywords, and then go to any free keywords planner tool and start obtaining statistics. That way, you can eliminate or add the more relevant keywords to your list. I hope you use them effectively and beat your competition for that #1 spot.
